Afterword: Creatures of the Divine
Creatures of the Divine is the afterword from What Animals Can Teach Us about Spirituality: Inspiring Lessons of Wild and Tame Creatures and is designed to stimulate your thoughts about animals in the afterlife. It briefly examines the question of animal souls. Although all of the work in this book is personal, this portion is extremely so as I discuss the loss of my beloved dog, Clyde. It was also unintentionally written on the year anniversary of his crossing over into other realms.
Excerpt from Creatures of the Divine:
"Losing a loved one is probably the most difficult thing we can experience. Nothing can fill the void left by the loss of his or her unique spirit, and nothing can describe the agony of the grief process. Although I've experienced many losses, none is so fresh or so deep as that of my Clyde. I never expected a dog to become my guardian, my companion, my playmate, my dog-training assistant, or my surrogate son, but Clyde was all those things. Clyde taught me important rules:- Love deeply, because it is all that matters.
- Greet those you love with enthusiasm.
- Make time for loved ones before anything else.
- Don't forget to love yourself.
- Forgive quickly and move on.
- Be loyal to family and friends.
- See the good in everyone and enjoy the interactions you have.
- Make others smile.
- Play every day.
- Go for walks.
- Take naps.
- Enjoy your meals.
- Pay attention to the moment.
- Do your best no matter what.
- Make mistakes and try again,, because that is how you learn.
- Be the first to make up. "
