Power of the Polar Bear
Power of the Polar Bear is chapter three of What Animals Can Teach Us about Spirituality. Here we are seduced into the world of physical power and emotional strength and impelled us to investigate intuition, empowerment, self-acceptance, and confidence. Bears, cats, insects, and coyotes escort us.
Excerpt from Power of the Polar Bear:
"The white bear towered over the tundra as he rose up on his hind legs to sniff the air. In this white world, his large statuesque figure was virtually invisible to the eye. As he moved his head back and forth to sample the breeze, only his dark nose and beady eyes gave away his presence. As his powerful snout caught the scent of a seal, it quivered slightly. Lowering his massive torso, he loped toward what might be a rich meal.
Of all the animals I've encountered, the polar bear is a formidable predator, afraid of nothing, not even humans. I've heard stories from pilots who guarded their equipment and passengers against these animals, and from people who watched these bears work against barriers to try to get at a researcher or photographer encased and protect by a measly little cage. Polar bears accept life in a harsh environment by adapting to it. With strength and stamina, they own their own power. These animals embody a strong sense of self and rely on their instincts. They live life without having to consort with others of their kind, except for brief interludes.
The polar bear exemplifies the qualities we find on the third rung of the spiritual ladder..."
